37 years experience in children’s services as school media specialist and children’s librarian for a public library
Born in Owen county Ky; grew up in Boone County Ky. between Union and Big Bone Lick. Boone County graduate and was involved in 4H and marching band, accompanist for choirs. While attending college at EKU in Richmond I was active in student government graduating with a Bachelors of Arts in Library Science from College of Ed. with certifications in K-12 School Media Specialist, K-12 Reading/Language Arts, Social Studies and General Science.
I moved to South Carolina and worked 12 years as a public school media specialist in a very rural district. While in South Carolina I completed a Masters of L. I. A at University of South Carolina in Columbia. In the community I participated in the arts through handbell choirs, choral groups, community and children’s theater. I was also active in church; teaching Sunday School and serving on denominational committees.
I returned to Kentucky and became a Children’s Librarian with the Public Library of Cincinnati in Hamilton County (PLCH) for over 20 years. While there I had the opportunity to train with leaders in children’s literacy, including Judy Sierra and Jim Gill. I also participated in grant fund programs with United Way’s Success by G, Children’s Hospital and “Mother Goose Ask”.
I give support by providing information to parents of special needs children, supporting social media sites for special needs interests, such as ADHD, reluctant reading, and dyslexia.
