Madison, IN – June 3, 2020 – The Madison Area Chamber of Commerce announced today that the organization will subsidize the regular fee amount on Chamber CA$H Community eGift Card purchases through the month of June. These digital gift cards are redeemable at dozens of local businesses. Since the program launched in January, more than 500 gift cards totaling nearly $20,000 have been purchased to support our local economy.
Supporting Local Businesses & Economy:
By supporting local businesses, more money circulates in the community through a combination of profits paid to local owners, wages paid to local workers, goods and services procured locally for internal use or resale, and charitable giving within the community. Studies have shown that local independent retailers recirculate 47% of their revenue back into the community, vs 14% for national chains. More dramatically, restaurants recirculate 73% of their revenue back into the community, vs 30% for national chains.
Buying & Redeeming:
Anyone can purchase the Chamber CA$H on the Chamber’s website (www.madisonindiana.com) or at the Chamber office. Purchasers can write a personal message, and send it to family, friends, and colleagues via email, text, or even printed for a personal touch. All digital, and always available on your phone, the Chamber CA$H is great for birthdays, holidays (like Father’s Day), teacher appreciation, coach gifts, or just to surprise a friend.
Recipients can choose to spend it at a growing list of participating merchants in the Madison area, including Off Broadway Taproom, Bad Apple Mac’s, Blush on Main, Fountain Alley BodyCare, Olde Tyme Marketplace, Little Golden Fox, Cocoa Safari Chocolates, The Red Pepper, Key West Shrimp House, and more! Spend it all at once or mix it up and spend at multiple locations. The digital cards can be accessed on your smart phone for convenient access on the go. Plus, reminders will be sent so you don’t forget to spend your gift before it expires.
Become a Participating Business:
In April, the Chamber announced the expansion of the Chamber CA$H Community eGift Card program to include ANY area business, regardless of membership this year.
“Our community has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Madison area businesses are resilient and we all need to come together with support. This is something we can do to give our shops, restaurants, and service industries a boost,” said Lindsay Bloos, Executive Director, “But this is not just a program for the crisis at hand, it is good for the community long-term to keep local dollars local, and support our economy.”
The program is free to area merchants. The only requirement is that the business has the ability to process MasterCard by keying in the credit card number (like processing a phone order). Merchants process cards through their point of sale system, and the only cost to the business is the regular fees they pay for credit card processing.
While typically reserved as a benefit of Chamber membership, the Chamber CA$H Community eGift Card Program is a resource extended to all area businesses throughout 2020.

Employee Gifts, Customer Appreciation, Marketing, & More:
Local companies use the Chamber CA$H Community eGift Card for company-funded programs such as employee rewards, customer appreciation, and marketing. These companies value the opportunity to reinvest in the community where our employees live, work and play, rather than awarding gift cards where the dollars leave the region.

Enterprise accounts with powering partner, Yiftee, provide additional coordination tools for the cards businesses purchase. Corporate givers of the Chamber CA$H Community eGift Card can set up and fund an enterprise account. This allows them to define accounts with specific budgets (e.g. by manager or program such as welcome or anniversary gifts, survey incentives, employee appreciation, etc.) and authorize access to those funds. Corporations can also set the expiration date of the eGift Card and unspent eGift Card money will be returned (less a 10% restocking fee). Comprehensive reporting provides visibility into givers, recipients, spending, refunds, redemption, information, and more.

Sponsor the Program: The Chamber is currently seeking sponsors for the Chamber CA$H Community eGift Card Program. The sponsorship would include promotion on the eGifts themselves as well as on the Chamber website, social media, press releases, and more. Sponsorship dollars would be used to offset costs that customers typically incur to purchase the digital cards.
