Community Grand Marshal Announcement
The City of Madison is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Charpentier is the Community Grand
Marshal for the 4th of July Madison Regatta Parade sponsored by German American Bank.
Dr. Charpentier is an emergency medicine physician working at King's Daughters' Health in
Madison for the last 6 years where he also serves as the medical director of the emergency department.
Born and raised in central Texas, he attended Texas A&M University, graduating cum laude with a
bachelor of science degree in microbiology in 1997. He was accepted at the world renowned University
of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he earned his medical degree in 2001. Following medical
school he completed his medical residency at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis in 2004.
The Community Grand Marshal position is a new role for the 2019 parade. Dr. Mark (as his co-
workers refer to him) won the opportunity to be Community Grand Marshal by his generous winning bid
at the King’s Daughter’s Health Foundation Gala in fall 2018. All funds raised that night support the KDH
Foundation, which strengthens the mission of KDH to “improve the health of our patients through care,
service, and education.” Dr. Charpentier said, “I love working in the King’s Daughters’ Emergency
department and serving the community of Madison. I bid on the opportunity to serve as community
grand marshal to give to the foundation and support this wonderful nonprofit organization serving this
community’s healthcare needs....Plus it sounded like a lot of fun and is a great excuse not to work in the
KDH ER 6 years in a row on Regatta!”
The 4th of July Madison Regatta Parade will take place on Main Street from Jefferson to
Cragmont Street and begins at 7:00pm on Friday, July 5th . The parade is one of many activities associated with the Madison Regatta and Roostertail Music Festival, which will take place on July 5th , 6th and 7th on the riverfront in Historic Madison Indiana. Wristbands for the Regatta & Roostertail Music Festival are available at www.madisonregatta.com.
