    Grant Writer Job Description

    Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County, IN (HFHJCI) is seeking a motivated, compassionate, and highly
    organized person to be an integral member of our team! The Development Director is responsible for
    planning, collaborating and/or managing, and executing all aspects grant writing, research, fundraising
    and donor relations including annual campaigns, major gifts, corporate and foundation cultivation and
    solicitation, and endowment building. The Development Director has a strategic role in driving
    fundraising and effectively communicating the mission and needs of HFHJCI to the community in the
    following areas:

    Grant Management
    Manage all aspects of grant research, writing and reporting for local, federal, and foundation funding:
     Maintain grants calendar and effectively manage deadlines
     Write grant applications, organize financial information, and manage follow up.
     Track and manage regular grant reporting.

    Donor Relations
     Develop, implement, and monitor annual development plan and budget, preparing monthly
    progress reports and maintaining dashboards to track progress.
     Support, retain and expand pool of individual, corporate and foundation donors, continually
    developing strategies to cultivate and solicit donors and meeting with them to communicate
    mission and needs.
     Develop and execute major donor campaigns, planned giving and other programs, pursuing in-
    kind donations wherever appropriate.
     Develop and execute strategies to recognize and acknowledge donors.
     Manage donor database, process, and manage donations, effectively mine and aggregate data
    for accurate reporting and targeted solicitation.
    Events and Relationship Management
     Work closely with Marketing Director to plan, organize and oversee all aspects of special
    fundraising events, including sponsorships.
     Work closely with Marketing Director to participate in community activities, building productive
    partnerships with community leaders and stakeholders.
     Pursue opportunities for state, regional, and national partnerships that strengthen our
    communities’ and organization’s reputation.
     Represent HFHJCI to external audiences; develop and display knowledge of key regional issues.

    Education and Experience
     Minimum 2 years of experience in a non-profit organization with a successful record of raising
    funds and writing grants.
     Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

    Skills, Knowledge, and other Competencies
     Enthusiastic leader who has a passion for working with a diverse and vibrant community.
     Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs with comfort level to learn, maintain and run reports
    from donor database; Experience donor database systems and familiarity with standard
    financial reporting strongly preferred.
     Strong and compelling writer with an eye toward messaging and marketing who can create a
    story with both data and anecdotes.
     Confident presenter, event planner and “people person” with ability to engage current and
    prospective donors and build durable relationships between donors and the organization.
     Skilled in strategy, planning and project management – able to take an idea from concept to
    completion.
     Strong organization and time management skills with solid attention to detail.
     Service-oriented with a positive attitude, team player and the flexibility to adapt to changing
    priorities.
     Experience with corporate and foundation relations; Knowledge of the Jefferson County
    philanthropic community is a plus.
