    The Director of Programs develops and implements all public programs, fund raising events, meetings, historic site/museum interpretation, special events, marketing, publicity, volunteer recruitment, training and coordination for this award winning historic preservation organization in the Madison, Indiana National Historic Landmark District.  The Director of Programs is responsible for the visitor experience at all of the organizations’ museum and other properties, maintains admission, visitation, and volunteer statistics and directly supervises a part-time Programs Assistant as well as a contract Event Coordinator for the Shrewsbury-Windle House National Historic Landmark.  The position provides preservation-related information to the public and works with staff from sister institutions, including City of Madison historic preservation staff, on areas of common concern.  This position reports to the Executive Director.
    The position requires a B.A. degree preferably in Historic Preservation, History, American Studies, or related field.  (M.A. or equivalent in Historic Preservation, American History, Museum Studies, or related field is preferred.)  At least three years progressively responsible experience in preservation, museum or historical agency management or administration is strongly desired.  The position requires:

    • Dedication to the mission and philosophy of HMI/HMFI
    • Excellent customer service skills, accuracy, enthusiasm and a productive work ethic
    • Ability to work independently, to work closely with a wide variety of people and to be a self-starter
    • Effective oral written and interpersonal communications skills
    • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
    • Proficiency in all forms of computer programs/applications
    • Proficiency in web site and social media management
    • Public speaking experience
