The Ohio River Valley Folk Society is presenting a four-part film series called Instrumental Visions:  A Continuing History of the Music Festival.

The Folk Society is a Madison non-profit dedicated to cultural offerings and music education.  It is a tax deductible means of supporting the annual RiverRoots Festival and produces the annual RiverRoots Music Series, featuring both regional and national touring Americana acts.

Hosted by Grammy award-winning artist and local resident, Robert Reynolds, the Instrumental Visions series seeks to bring together area music lovers, especially those with a sense of history.  “I see a clear link between the music festivals presented in this series and the history made each year at Madison’s own RiverRoots,” explains Reynolds, “We hope the showing of these films can generate further excitement and appreciation for our great event.”

    Series Schedule:
    Thursday, March 8, 7 p.m. - Main Branch, Madison-Jefferson County Public Library
    Festival!

Festival! documents four years in the life of the Newport Folk Festival, includes Peter, Paul & Mary, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan.  The Isle of Wight features The Who, The Moody Blues and the last stage performances of The Doors and Jimi Hendrix.  Festival Express, unique in that its footage was lost for decades before its release, includes Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead and The Band.  Monterey Pop, which proceeded Woodstock by two years, captures the first major American appearances by Jimi Hendrix and The Who, and prominently features Big Brother and the Holding Company and Otis Redding.

All of the films in the series are presented free of charge, suggested donations will be accepted at the Red Bicycle Hall and Ohio Theatre shows.  Memberships to the Ohio River Valley Folk Society, all proceeds benefit the RiverRoots Festival, are available for purchase at riverroots.org/sponsorship.
