  • Our committed educators take pride in our schools. From pre-school to college, a variety of options exist, both public and private.

The Jefferson County area is served by two great public school systems. Madison Consolidated Schools consists of the Madison Consolidated Preschool, Junior High School, High School as well as the Deputy, E.O. Muncie, Lydia Middleton, and Rykers’ Ridge Elementary Schools. Southwestern Schools are located in Hanover and serve the western portion of Jefferson County. The Southwestern Elementary, Middle School, and High School are all within walking distance of each other.

Other community educational options include two more Chamber members: a private and a charter school. Prince of Peace Catholic Schools, the private school system, consists of Pope John Elementary and Shawe Memorial Jr-Sr High School. Our area charter school, Canaan Community Academy, serves grades K – 6. There is even a free preschool for income eligible households offered through Ohio Valley Opportunities’ Head Start Program.

Jefferson County also boasts two post-secondary institutions, Hanover College and Ivy Tech Community College. If you are seeking an online degree or to further your collegiate education, Indiana Wesleyan University offers online courses as well as campus courses in cities within a 45 to 125 mile radius of Madison; Kettering University also offers online Graduate Degree Programs as well as Masters Programs.

Learners of all ages are welcome at the Jefferson County Public Library, with branches in downtown Madison and Hanover.
